Hygge New Year!
Today is my first day back in the studio after all the festivities and one of my New Year’s resolutions was to finally write my first blog post.
I escaped to Cornwall after Christmas for a few days with some close friends and family. Plenty of sea air, coastal walks, and chilling in front of a log fire is just the perfect antidote after the frantic festivities. This year, as we chatted around the table, our conversation turned to the ‘Hygge’ hype of 2016.
If you have somehow missed the ‘hygge’ hype, hygge (pronounced hoo-gar) is a Danish word that essentially describes a feeling of cosiness and contentment with emphasis on togetherness and the enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures.
January is the perfect time to for us to get that hygge feeling with cosy nights in front of the fire, mugs of hot chocolate, cashmere throws and flickering candles. But you can also get that hygge feeling by taking time for yourself, by doing something for yourself that will give you some well deserved hygge.
This led me to realise that calligraphy gives me that hygge feeling everyone is talking about. As I practice my letterforms or embark on a calligraphy project I find myself relaxing into the rhythm of the pen, my mind clears, I become relaxed and content… I am experiencing hygge!
So, if you are looking for some hygge this year, why not join me on one of my workshops and learn the art of calligraphy. Do check my website for the latest workshop schedule, I would love to see you there! If on the other hand, your pen, nib and ink are hiding in a drawer maybe now could be the time to retrieve them and rediscover some good old calligraphy hygge!
Wishing you all a very Hygge New Year!

I joined Judy's group workshop at the Langham hotel and loved every moment of it. The set up was beautifully done with our own personalised place setting laid out with all the tools required for the session. Judy helped us all individually, giving time and assistance when needed as well as showing us things as a group. The whole class was fantastics.
